THE ASCII ART SCENE
| |
Obviously ASCII Art has been with computers since the beginning in one form or another, but in the early 1990's, there came to be an entirely new approach to the artwork. Using techniques borrowed from graffiti tags and signature files, artists started forming groups or issuing single releases, all aimed around offering greetings, showing techniques, and generally contributing to a new "scene". This has since earned the names "old school ASCII" and "new-school ASCII" but in fact, it's all new. Much like the ANSI groups of the same period, these groups have all the trappings of a rich, vibrant scene: the claims to be the best, the carefully timed releases, and the rampant gossip and taunts. Some of these packs use ANSI codes to give shading or color to the ASCII as well, and as a result might be found in the artpacks section as well. This collection is almost entirely from the efforts of the MIMIC Group.
